Golf Tips to Keep in Mind

Nice Swing

  • The hips should lead the downswing (at the very start of the downswing your hips should be the first thing to move/shift)
  • At ball contact, the back of the front hand should face your target
  • At ball contact, the majority of your weight should be on your front leg
  • From Address position, weight between legs should be 50:50. At the top of the backswing (upswing), the back leg should have ~60% weight. At this position the front leg is slightly bent with kneecap forward from the Address position. The back leg is almost straightened out. On downswing lead with the hips (rotate the hips towards target and slightly downward) while shifting the weight from back leg to front. At this point majority of the weight is on the front leg.
  • REMEMBER: hips should lead the downsing. Not the hands or shoulders
  • REMEMBER: let the clubhead do the work. Not the hands or shoulders (feel the weight of the club)
  • Don't lift your head up too soon

Watch that Wrist

  • Don't be too wristy! Put your body into it by letting your hips lead the downswing. Your shoulders and arms will follow.
  • The back wrist controls the hinging. It has two main functions: Hinge and Unhinge.
  • At the top of the backswing (upswing) the front wrist should be flush (flat) with the back of front hand. No bowing or cupping (slight cupping is ok).
  • The hinging of the back hand controls the bowing or cupping of the front hand wrist.
  • The front hand only holds onto the club
  • REMEMBER to unhinge (relax) the back wrist in the 'strike zone'. It should be fully unhinged at ball contact.

Your Golf Grip

  • Don't grip the club too tight. Doing so will slow down the hands, and ultimately the clubhead speed.

Stay on Tempo

  • Focus on a 3:1 tempo (upswing:downswing)
  • Focus on having a fluid, smooth tempo; doing so prevents misalignments during the undwind (downswing)
  • With a smooth tempo, you should feel the weight of the club. Let the club do the work.
  • Don't try to muscle it (which results in hitting Fat).
  • Use practice swings for tempo; not on how hard you're going to hit the ball

Watch your Stance

From the Sandtrap

  • General Rule: aim to hit 2" in front of your ball.
  • You MUST follow through.

Awesome Approach

General Golf Tips

  • Have fun out there!
  • Playing from the rough is fun! (very fun indeed..)
  • Ultimately, you're really playing against yourself, not your percieved opponent.
